1998 Mercury 15 HP water pump

Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a super cheap 1998 15HP mercury. The water pump on it is acting weird, it spits out water then might stop for a few seconds then will spit out good then spit etc etc. Is this a problem, is it meant to do that?

If you haven't replaced the impeller I would do that immediately. As far as what it is doing it is normal. The pee-hole on them is connected right to the thermostat so you can see it open and close. It will cycle a couple times then should be a steady flow as the temp evens out.
