If it is a tracker, it is a Mercury...it is not a force which you don't ever want...This is a good motor

Re: 1998 Mercury Tracker 75 HP, What is it?

Why do I have to look under, force and chrylser on these forums for any info close to my engine or on the mercury site they break it down by force/sears for the schematics? I used to own a 1976 70 hp Johnson, pretty straight forward when it came to finding parts not the same with this mercury/tracker/force engine, its not spelled out easy enough.

Also this model has on one carb for the all three cylinders, less adjustments great, but usually when I get talking with somebody about my engine, we get the carb situation and I mention I only have one, then say they have never seen this model like that. why is this so difficult?

But "tracker" is good you say?

Here are the numbers, it says right on power head label 75-90 fORCE

The engine cover says Tracker by Mercury Marine, why is this **** so confusing.

This what happens lately with t his motor, everything else seems fine on this motor, but after a few minutes running after winter storage I get this line of milky oil coming from the exhaust, not the gear case.

You will see form post #5, that the s/n of your engine is 2334395 not 37-855211-19, which is the p/n for the tag.

Your tag says that the engine is a 1998 but it actually comes up as:

75 H.P. (1997)
Click on Serial number
0E203000 THRU 0E287999

whereas, the 1998 s/n range is:

75 H.P. (1998)
Click on Serial number
0E288000 THRU 0E344999

Do not pay attention to the 0 or E at the start of the number, which you will see at different sites, it is just the range we are looking for. Same with the last number as most sites have excluded it.

Parts listing for your engine s/n:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/2014.cfm

I sent you the number for your service manual and you though it was expensive, but it may turn out to be your best investment.

well... I thought Tracker was using Mercury engines and not Force...According to the manual Gerry gave you the link to, it's a force sorry to say... While I am sure everyone has their opinions, the Mercury force was not built like a regular Mercury....Just make sure that you keep good oil in it, fresh fuel with a separator, and a fresh water pump yearly.....

Looks like you got a Force after Mercury took them over, and badged the name to Tracker for Tracker boats. I own a 1998' Force 120hp and I have to say it's a pretty dang good motor. Costs hardly anything to keep it running, parts are easy to find and install, there are NO extra parts on the motor....whats on there HAS to be there for it to run; Very simple machine that is VERY powerful BUT....it drinks gas. Nothing to worry about. Keep the carbs clean, fresh plugs, waterpump.....never have a problem. Just like every other OB on the planet.

Well, OK so its a Force, now that that's out of the way, lets talk about fixing my problem, from what I have heard I need a new Head Gasket, water pump, plugs, gaskets and seals all over.
Anyone know how much that would cost, labor and all.....sorry guys, i'm not doing this one myself.

Got a guy who says he can do it for $325 plus the cost of the seals and gaskets and pump and gear oil.
Not to mention I snapped a bolt, he said its no problem though. Plus he is mobile, I dont have to bring the boat anywhere and its gonna be done in a day....does this even sound feasible???????

HERE IS A PHOTO OF MY PROBLEM

Sounds good to me... Water pump jobs run around $125 plus some $35.00 for the pump and gaskets.. Head gaskets could be $30 or more plus at least an hour $115. Plugs $20 and 15 minutes...Shop wouldn't be much more and you would have recourse if something went haywire...The mobil guy will be gone...Check out the local shop pricing as I am quoting you California prices...given you location probably isn't much better...Let us know how you make out and which way you go....
