1998 Regal XR2 with Mercury 175

At the end of the season last year, after our mechanic had solved some starting issues, we immediately began having trouble planing. The boat has the rpms but does not have the speed it had and does not seem to plane off correctly. We really enjoy this boat because we can explore waters we couldn't with an outboard, but I am not familiar with much about this type of set up. I can do the work myself...I just need to know what the problem could be.

This is a jet boat with the Merc 2.5L V6 175 hp SportJet engine correct?
You might have better response in the PWC section, but first you need to clarify that it is a jet. If so, you might check out some forums specific to jet boats such as SugarSand or SeaDoo that also used this engine in their boats.
