Hi,
I purchased a boat with a 150hp on the back, it had an issue with he gearbox and was removed when i got it, i fixed the box issue (i think) and put in a new impellar too.
I put the box on and now have an issue that its starting (he started it when i purchased it 5months ago) and there is water coming out the telltale nicely. but its over heating, ive removed the thermostats and tried running and no water coming out of them, i also took the valve out at the bottom of the block and a bit of water ccomes through there, i tried it back in without the valve and still nothing coming through the heads (yes both sides no water)
What could be the problem or any suggestions? thenks

Did you get the water pickup tube lined up properly when you put the lower unit back on? Could be the grommet is missing on the tube? Or did the old impeller come apart and plug up the tube? Just a few things to check.

would it still come out the tell tale as a good jet if it was a bad pickup tube seal. I can remove the leg and try resetting it all again

Are you testing this on a hose / lake / or in a small test tank ?----Water level must be above the pump if testing in a small tub of water.

In water or on hose?

For some reason they don’t like running on hose....

water pump is way above the intakes.
try by backing boat into the water like it will normally be started and run

i had the hose then a container with it 5cm above the intakes

There's a problem.

As 99yam notes, the impeller is several inches above the mating line between the lower unit and the mid-section. Way up above the intakes. The impeller pushes water OK. It does not pull water worth a damn.

Trying to trouble shoot an over temperature problem using flush muffs is like teats on a boar hog. Like trying to water a two acre vegetable garden in the middle of summer using a one gallon bucket.
