I have a 1998 Sea Ray 175X2 Sport Jet. There is a hose that runs from the top of the engine to a cover plate on the bottom right hand side of the engine. I took the cover off to replace the gasket, because there was water in the cavity and it froze over the winter and blew out the gasket. When I removed the cover, there are 2 cavities, one large(toward the front of the engine) and one small(to the rear of the engine).
I would like to know what the purpose of the cavities are, and why is there water in the smaller cavity? Is this normal?

I have been having this problem for the past 3 years and have contacted a number of dealers, but no one has been able to diagnose the problem.

I would be very grateful for any advice you could give to rectify this problem.

Thank You
Bob Bye
