Just got done with a comlete rebuild from bottom to top on the 717. The only thing I didn't replace or mess with was the charging system/stator. Upon firing up the new motor and letting her run for about 15 minutes, I then shut her down and attempted a restart. Nothing happened  I started checking things and found the rectifier to be hot to the touch. Needless to say, it was burned out.

What causes this to happen?

Its almost always from jumping the batt while it's connected. They are known to go out...just a crappy part, but more often then not it is caused from a charger hooked to a batt without disconnecting it first.

Yeah, I have had the little 2A maintainer charger hooked to it, but never have jumped it. I just replaced the rectifier, and it still does the same thing - two short beeps, gauge and light comes on, but no power through the starter.

Where do I start in diagnosing what component or components are bad?

Re: 1998 SeaDoo GTI burned out the rectifier/regulator

After replacing many parts, come to find out that when the rectifier blew, it damaged the buzzer, starting solenoid, and the stator. It's ready for sale now, but my work is not done...

I now have a similar problem with my 2001 GTX RFI. Keeps giving me a LOW VOLTAGE warning even right after a full charged battery. I've been researching this and find that most of the time it is the regulator/rectifier vs. it being the stator/magneto.

I've been looking at the rectifiers by OSDparts.com but don't want to spend that much. Does anybody know the best rectifier to buy?
