If I understand correctly there were 3 basic ways that the 7.4 liter was packaged from about 1996 to 1998:
GL 4 bbl holly carb with SX or DP drive
Gi fuel injected with SX or DP drive
GSi fuel injected with DPX drive

My question is about the fuel injection. Volvo Penta's old literature says that they offered both Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) and Multi Port Fuel Injection (PFI). And apparently they were both put under the category of "electronic" fuel injection. Was there really a MPI/PFI version sold and how do you tell the difference.
thanks

Do you actually have this engine? If so, what is the FULL model number, or better yet, the VP serial number.
If you are just asking for general knowledge. The TBI has what looks like a 2 bbl. carb in the middle of the intake manifold. MPI has injectors and a throttle body near the front or off to the side of the intake.

Re: 1998 VP 7.4 GL, Gi or GSi

It is in a boat I am thinking of looking at to purchase. It is a ways away so I am trying to research it a little before making the trip. It was advertised as a 7.4 Volvo 330 hp. I called and asked and they said it was a GL engine with fuel injection. So that in itself did not make sense. I will try to get the serial # and post.
