Hello,

I just recently bought a 1998 Wellcraft 190 CCF. I took it out of the the water the other day and when I pulled the drain plug out a fair amount of water drained out. I was only in the water for approx. 30 minutes. I believe much more was in there after that short amount of time than there should have been. Does anyone have and suggestions about where and how to check for leaking? Note, there are no obvious hull cracks or repairs. I will try and replace the drain plug with a new one, but other than that I don't know. There are bilge drain holes on the port and starboard side of the hull. I dont know if they could be the problem and am not really sure how to access them to check. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Re: 1998 Wellcrat 190CCF water problem

Hi t1799
I had the same problem with a 1999 Sea Pro CC; it turned out to be a split hose from the front locker drain. allowing water to enter via the drain hole and fill up the hull.
Check for an additional drain hole below the waterline, either near the main drain plug or somewhere near the stern. The additional drain will either serve a livewell or self draining locker. To test, pour a bucket of water into any self draining locker and check it drains at the stern. If not, it is possible that a hose has either split or disconnected between the locker and drain hole. For the livewell, add water again then pull the well drain plug. Again, if water does not exit via the stern drain hole, it is likely you have a split or disconnected hose. If all lockers and baitwells drain properly, and assuming you have a livewell pump, check around the thru' hull pump intake valve, as that could be leaking. If so, any water in the hull would exit back through the valve/thru' hull fitting when ashore.
Unless there is obvious damage, it is unlikely to be the hull itself.
Check out the attached images for your boat, downloaded from the wellcraft website, in the resources section at the top of the page.
Hope that helps.

I recomend checking the bellows for posible leaks. There could also be a posibility of water from foreward in The hull siting duing storage which migrated back when in the launching ramp. Also check for leaks from engine drains and hose clamps. Try placing boat in water get a flashlight and look for drips. bring extra rags or shop vac to remove any excess water while searching for leaks. Try first with engine off, then when running.

Thanks for the information guys. I will try those leak tests ASAP. However, I was wondering if it appears to be a hose problem from one of the discharge holes on the exterior of the hull, do you know how to access those hoses? I have removed the rod holder storage panel on the sides of the boat but it appears those hoses are below that area. Just not sure how to access them to see if they are the problem. Thanks for any help.

Hi Again

Can you get access to the hull either under the console or under the seat? If so, it might give you a better view of the hoses and how they are set up. Good luck!

Wellcraft are known for open compartments under your deck, connected via drain holes. I bought a 24.8 sportsman, had it dry/ so i thought. After the first launch/run, we had a huge amount of water in the rear bildge, and 500 walnuts. a thourough cleaning removed another 3 five gallon buckes of walnuts. Dang squirrels. hope your solution is this easy.

Just search my name on in this forum. I have posted numerous posts on the exact same problem you are having on the exact same year and model you have. It is in my opinion a design flaw in the cockpit scuppers and an easy fix. Just look at the number of people who have posted the same question about the 19cc if you don't believe me.
