Hello Everyone,

Heres my issue:

I have a 1998 200HP Yamaha. Was originally on a 20FT Mako, bought a new wiring harness and this is what happened; Push in the key (separated from the throttle box) and the choke works, turn the key and did nothing. I found out later on that one of the wires from the harness (brown i believe) needed to be split and attached for a complete circuit. Hence the motor finally turned over.

Now i boat a new boat, attached the wiring harness from the new boat to my motor and running into the same issue again. This time im dealing with a combo throttle box/ignition switch and does the same thing again: tilt/choke works but doesnt turn over. Have the repair manual but doesnt give me a trouble shooting faq on what wires i need to mess around with to turn the motor over.

I have a voltage meter and need to know how to dected the broken circuit. That or any other suggestions? Appreciate any advice on this.

Re: 1998 Yamaha 200HP Wiring Harness FAQ

check for 12V at the brown wire on the solinoid with the key in the start position.
the engine,by law, must have start in gear protection. typically on larger engines this is done by a micro switch in the control box.
current enters the switch on the red wire, leaves the switch on the brown wire going to the nuetral start switch leaving the N start switch heading for the 10 pin connector then to the starter solinoid.
