1998 Yamaha 225 - need advice!

I'm contemplating purchasing a 1998 Parker 23' with a Yamaha 225 Saltwater Series II? motor. The motor has low hours, but what concerns me is the powerhead. Apparently, someone put the motor to sleep and disconnected the oil line. When the boat was commissioned in the spring, that same mechanic forgot to reconnect the oil line, and the engine locked up (sales guy's story: brokerage boat). The powerhead was rebuilt, and has 100 hours on it or so. The question is this: once an engine has been seized like this, would a simple rebuild fix the problem, or is there some irreversible damage done to the block? I know it is a 10 year old boat/motor, but I really cant afford a new boat at this time. Also, would not mind hearing about opinions on Yamaha's of this vintage. If I recall correctly, the cowling mentioned something about 76 degree something or other.

I can't comment on weather rebuilding will fix all that went wrong. I will say the Yammis of this vingage were exceptionally reliable, although a bit thirsty by today's standards. I have had a pair of 1994 225's and currently have a pair of 1999 250's. Never have not started. Carb models can be finicky and require more maintenance, but very solid. I would ask for a 1 year warranty on the motor you're looking at.

Thanks for the info! I got to see if they would even give any warranty whatsoever. If not, I don't think I want to take a chance like that....
