Hi all,

My 1999 150 efi overheated the other day. In hindsight, it was my own fault--the boat was loaded to capacity and I was teaching my niece how to kneeboard, which means we were going at just the right speed to really work the engine hard, with the boat plowing through the water. I never should've had the boat loaded that heavy and pulled a kneeboarder at the same time.

We were going along about 2,000 rpms when the overheat alarm sounded. Within about 2-3 seconds I pulled back to neutral, shut the motor down and dove into the water to help my niece get back to the boat. After getting back to the boat, I turned the key switch on and got the "test" beep but no overheat alarm. So, I tried to start it up and it fired right up as usual and ran great. We ran it the next 2 days with no problems, and no other alarms other than the "test" alarm when turning the key switch on.

I've read that an overheat can damage the oil injection pump's drive gear. If this is the case, is there any way I can check for damage? What should I look for?

Thanks,
John
