Hey everyone,

I am looking into buying a 1999 Triton-18ft bb with a 99 150hp johnson. I have not seen it yet in person, but have talked to the owner. He said only problem with it is the power tilt&trim from the consule and the bow is not working. He did say the one at the motor works. I told him to repair it first, he said he will and think its the relay(s). I dont know what it is. Can anyone tell me the basic of power tilt and trim? What could the problems be? If I need to repair it how much will it cost? Its a nice boat and I might not buy it because of this issue.

Thank you,
Sue Chang

if it works at the motor everything is ok, they use the same relays. It sounds like a loose or corroded wire possibly. it may cost a few dollars to get a mechanic to fix it but I would not think it should be a deal buster. Just have the seller fix it first, or deduct a hundred bucks off the price, so you can pay to get it fixed. probably the power wire going from the motor to the bow, the wire would then continue to the console.

The trim switch on the shifter is a flimsy, should be suspect til proven good.
They tend to be pricey for what they are too.

i am getting sick and tired of having to get out the KY jelly every time I need anything for a boat..we need to start an after market boat/outboard parts company. make Tash CEO and produce marine parts for 1/2 of the current prices, we will all get rich and help out all the poor smuck boat owners.
