It just goes off soon after you start it. The engine also quits if you dont pump the fuel bulb as well. I have checked all the fittings and completely cleaned the oil tank and primed all the way to the VRO pump. What do I need to do next? All of this is happening on the hose pipe. Have yet to take this boat to the river. I just purchased it not too long ago with a bad engine. The bottom left cylinder looking from rear had 15 psi comp. I took off the head and let it soak in de-carbon and now it has nearly 60 which is still not as good as the rest but assume it needs running hard. Help me out guys. Thanks

Getting the compression up to 60 from 15 certainly helps, but the compression on all cyclinders should be within 10% of one another. Before I ran it hard, I would check further for internal powerhead damage. If there is not damage already, you will be fortunate.

The cylinders all looked good. I believe I had a ring stuck because it was not scraping the oil on the cylinder wall. Apparently now it is improving. But what about the buzzer problem?

Here's how the VRO/OMS pump works: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html

It sounds to me like both parts of your fuel pump are not working right. The fuel part because you have to pump the bulb to keep it running, and the oil part because you get the No Oil alarm. Therefore, my WAG is that either the air motor (which drives both parts of the pump) is failing OR, the pulse that drives the air motor is not adequate.

If it's the air motor, you'll need to get a new pump because I don't know if it's rebuildable.

If its the pulse, first thing I wonder is which cylinder drives the pulse and if that cylinder is putting out enough compression.

Second, of course check all the pulse connections way back to the pulse limiter which is threaded into the crankcase. Of course check all the other fuel and oil hoses and connections too.

PS: here's another very similar thread:

Anybody know how much compression it takes to drive the vro pump? I would love to know a way to diagnose this problem.

See the sticky file "Top Secret" for directions on how to test the pump.
Or follow the FAQ link in my signature.
CArefully check the pump for leaks after pressurizing the bulb. They can develop cracks.
