I have 1999 Force/Mercury (really a Mercury motor) that stalls after putting in gear when the boat sits for a while after fishing. I can start the motor fine when cold, rev and then drive. But after I sit for a while if I start the motor it idles fine but when I put into gear it starts to move but then slowly dies and sounds like it get starves of gas (the motor slows down and then eventually stalls out). If I start it, rev it in neutral for a little bit (warm it back up) then I can engage the drive, get on plane on plane and things work fine. When the boat is warm I can re-start and take right off. I am thinking this could be the bulb or fuel filter but am not sure. I have not been able to squeeze the bulb when this is occurring as I am driving to drive. The primer bulb and fuel filter were replace about 5 or 7 years ago.

Thanks for any help!

Next time you've been sitting awhile, before even attempting to start, squeeze the primer bulb and see if it is still relatively firm or if it has gone soft. It sounds a little like your fuel line may be losing prime while you are fishing.
