Hello everyone I'm the proud owner of a 1999 Caravelle 209 which I recently bought after upgrading from a 1990 bayliner. The boat I have just bought is a project boat, my wife an I are committed to restore this awesome acquisition to its original condition. The boat we just bought is from an original owner, it was sold because the previous family experienced a fire in the *right side of the engine compartment which completely damaged all cabling from captain chair control area (all cables from instrument panel and speed control lever), basically all cables and components that run on the right hand side of the boat need to be replaced.

The reason for my post is really to reach out to you to find out where I could purchase a maintenance or technical book that contains all electrical, mechanical, maintenance, engine and dive information. With my bayliner I had a book that contained all information about boat. Additionally I will be purchasing cable hardness and other items and would like to *know detail part numbers and components so that I don't make a mistake in the order.

What guidance or guide can you provide to assist me in the restoration?

Thank you and look forward to your response.

Re: 1999 Caravelle 209 electrical hardness help

You are basically in luck. First, understand that a boat has two separate electrical systems. The ENGINE system is the harness that runs from the engine to the helm (control box). The diagram for that system is in the service manual for your engine. If this is an I/O you will need the drive and engine serial numbers. Take that info to the I/O forum and you may be able to download the manuals. Otherwise the service manuals can be purchased on-line. If you have an outboard, the diagram will be in the service manual for that specific engine and again, you may get lucky if you stop at your local library and check their selection of service manuals. For the console (gauges) and the BOAT wiring, check the STICKIES at the top of the ELECTRICAL forum (not the top of this page). That wiring is pretty generic. The BOAT harness is nothing more than a pair of #8 or #10 wires (red and black) that runs from the battery to the fuse panel at the helm. All of the accessories get wired to that fuse panel.

Re: 1999 Caravelle 209 electrical hardness help

Silvertip,

Thank you for your response, I do apologize for the late posting.

Good news is that I was able to source out all cables (electrical and control) from http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/index.php, great site for all boating products. Additionaly I have begun the restoration process which resulted in finding out that I have a bad starter as well, got this part from iBoats.

Overall I'm still on track and budget which is a good thing.

One item that I need help with is the transom vent grills, this part has been a challenge and I'm unable to find it. Any advise?

Thanks
