1999 Crownline Mercruiser Problem

5.7 MPI fuel injected. Runs perfect for 10 to 15 mins and then starts backfiring through the throttle body. I can slow down and sometimes it goes away. At other times, pop, pop, pop, more gas I give it the more it pops. Thanks for your help.

Forgot to add that it seems to be running rich. At end of the day the chrome exhaust is covered with black soot.

Hopefully, the Moderators will move this thread to the Mercruiser Forum . . .

it would be best to give the serial number of the engine and maybe even the outdrive so that answers can be more specific.

since you have an MPI engine there made be some fault codes that can be read from the engine control module connector thingy.
