I need some help removing my lower unit for skeg repair. I have all the necessary bolts off, except i am having trouble removing the shifting lever(i am guessing that is what it is). Where does it disconnect, and what kind of procedure is it? Help!! Fishing season is just around the corner!

If you're having a piece of aluminum TIG welded on, leave the LU on and leave the gear oil in it. Use a welder who's done this before and you should be good to go.

There is a clip under the flywheel that the shift rod connects to.
Put the shifter in reverse and you be able to access the clip.
It should pop up with finger pressure

BTW, the EMM should be disconnected before welding, but an experienced welder should know this. Makes no difference if the is zero skeg left.

What does emm stand for and where is it located? I am guessing that is the brain box for the motor?

Also, i called a few aluminum weld shops and did find one that can do it with the lower unit still on the boat. Thanks for the tip(s).

Also, just to note this 115 has not given me any problems whatsoever, to contradict the people who like to bash the FICHT's.

Your Ficht must have had all the upgrades done and you've been lucky, although most of the issues were with the V-6's.

Yes, the EMM is the engine management computer.
