Just bought this motor for my pontoon, has been in storage for years(fog and winterized) it looks new. runs strong untill 5000rpm then acts like it runs out of gas. pumping the bulb or choke makes no differance. floats are level, carbs clean, new fuel pump. new fuel lines... the two yellow wires on the stator show continuity instead of resistance.. does this sound like losing voltage at high speed. Low end is strong all the way to 5000. can run all day at 3000 with no problems..but after 3 seconds at 5000 it happends.
thanks in advance

When you say it acts like it runs out of gas, do you mean it slowly runs down and shuts off or does it shut off immediately like the ignition switch was turned off?

If you pull the trottle back a hair does the engine run normal again?

Do you have an internal tank?

John

Take a look under the flywheel with someone moving the throttle up and back. Look for any wires that may be touching ground or the flywheel.

As you move the throttle, it moves the trigger via the timing tower shaft. If the wires are not tied right, they can wear on the flywheel and short out.

I have the stator off thinking it may be bad, yellow wires show continuity but all wire at trigger and stator look like the just came from the factory

If the stator and trigger ohm out ok, then your problem lies elsewhere. Do you have a Clymer manual? If not, you need to get one to do thorough troubleshooting.

I am currently TDY so I have no manuals at my disposal.
