1999 Force 40 HP Lube Amount?

I just purchased a new-to-me 1999 Bass Tracker with a Force 40 HP. The boat runs and looks great, it has very low hours on it and has been garaged. I have replaced the impeller, spark plugs, and lower unit lube as precautionary measures without any problems. The lower unit only seemed to hold ~12 oz of oil, does this sound correct? I ordered the Service Manual for it today. The compression was ~130 on both cylinders.
It is taking some getting used to not having the water pump stream from the side of the motor, I have never owned a motor without this before.
Do you guys have any other suggestions on things I should check? Thank you

Sounds like you have it pretty well covered.

You might want to rebuild the fuel pump.
This alcohol gas we have is hard on the diaphram in the fuel pump.

A new thermostat would be good too.

Gearlube should be 14.9 ounces.

There is a small pipe plug on the top of the motor, just in front of the thermostat cover.
You can remove the plug and screw in a brass 90* fitting, then connect a 2 foot length of tubing.
Route the tubing down to the bottom of the cowling and drill a hole. Push the tubing through the hole and secure in place with a couple of plastic ties.

Presto !! Instant water flow indicator for about $5.

I just did it,,,,,, Works like a champ!!!! $4.44 for the tubing and the 90 degree fitting. Now I can tell if my water pump quits working for some reason. Thank you for the input.

What do you push the tubing through? Where in the cowling and why?

You would have to drill a small hole in the cowling.
Then push the tube thru and secure in place.

The water stream from the tube is a constant visual indicator of your cooling water flow. If the water flow stops, the water pump is not working and your engine will soon overheat.

Most motors come with this indicator or telltale.

Yes, you can place it where it is visible while driving the boat.
If it shoots out to the side, you can see it better.
