WAS LOOKING INTO A CENTER CONSOLE 1850 SEASWIRL STRIPER 1999 THAT HAS A 115 OCEAN PRO JOHNSON ON IT USED ONLY IN FRESH WATER ARE THERE ANY PRO OR CON'S ON THIS ENGINE.
Howdy, Lonewolf.

That was not Johnson't best year, there were a lot of QC problems for the '99s.

If it has had enough use to reveal and fix any QC problems it is an excellent engine.

Good luck.
Hi lonewolf.

QC stands for Quality Control. The now defunct OMC corp., went down the tubes partially or mostly from what view you take, from poor QC. As JB said, if the engine has had the bugs removed it probably will serve well. See if you can get any history on maint and any upgrades or enhancements kits that may have been added. Good Luck!
You never said if it was a Ficht or carb. engine?
If it's a Ficht ,yes the V-6 had a high failure rate but the V-4, that had the updates done arn't that bad.If it's a carbureted , in my opinion, the V-4,V-6 60' Eagle engines are some of the best out there.
Offer him what he paid minus 10% for each year - $1000 and then adjust for how clean..

Example New $18000 in 1999
worth $16200 at the end of Y2000, 14580 at the end of Y2001, and $13122 at the end of Y2002. ....offer him 12 ( but I'm no expert)
