Re: 1999 Johnson 225 no start
KIll lanyard in place?
Theres a neutral safety switch in the shifter to prevent starting gear, jiggle the shifter handle back and forth and retry.
If no dice, unplug the main harness at the engine end, all plugs out and grounded jump the starter with a peice of wire and see if you get spark.
If yes, the problem is up in the dash or harness, next place to look is ignition switch.
If no, connect the main plug again and see if theres any voltage leaking into the black/yellow stripe wire ( kill wire) , any voltage will knock out the power pack. If no voltage, disconnect the kill wire and see if spark returns.
Be carefull not to let the kill wire touch any other terminals on the ignition switch or you'll blow the pack. Tape it off whilst testing to prevent it touching live wires.
It might be easier to disconnect it at the powerpack (black wire with yellow stripe).
The idea is to try and get a situation where spark returns and we can go from there.
You might want to post your model number, it helps the experts.
On some models a blown rectifier/regulator can kill the ignition too, test by disconnecting it.
