I have a 1999 Johnson 250hp on my 23ft cc. The tilt trim works excellent. However when I put the boat in reverse if I give it any throttle much above idle it lifts the motor up almost out of the water. What is the cause of this and can it be fixed? Sometimes I need to back down quicker than idle, and would like to be able to do so.

Exactly what to expect to be wrong... not sure. But that is a hydraulic system issue which should not be happening.

The tilt should hold the engine firmly in place. Just a couple of degrees of "wiggle" up or down.

Anything can be fixed. Somethings are cheaper/easier to replace than to fix. Not trying to be pessimistic... Someone may have had it happen and know a 50 cent part that fixes it in 5 minutes... I don't think it will be that easy.

There is a " reverse lock check valve " in the system.-----------If you do not have a factory manual a dealer can find that item.

Is the fluid at the proper level in the reservoir? If low, there may be air in the system
