Hi all how does Tis sound, I had my boat serviced , it's new to me so I always pay the professionals to do a full service before I get carried away using it
Anyway when I got it back from the mechanic he asked had the trim system been leaking, as the boat is new to me I couldn't say either way
So on getting it home I noticed it was in fact leaking, I could have called up the mechanic but at the risk of having to pay more money I thought I would investigate myself
The previous owner had replaced the trim pump motor and apparently re used the o ring seal as there was a new one in the side pocket of the boat
So ah ha I thought I'll swap out the seal as it appeared that there is where the oil was leaking
So today I dug into it, trimmed the motor up fully, flipped the stay into position, released the manual release screw
And removed the trim position switch, I reckoned there was enough slack in the trim motor cable to allow me to remove it
Moving along I saw that the trim oil fill cap screw driver slot was fairly knocked around so decided to make sure I could remove it before going any further
When I did, there was a huge amount of air pressure escape then a significant amount of oil maybe a pit more than half a cup
My understanding is that with the Rams fully extended you fill the oil close it off and the up and down the trim a few times to bleed it, continuing the process till all the sound of air has gone and the system works smoothly
So I took out the motor mounting screws but couldn't move the motor, I started to think of getting something to tap the motor, but then thought ,I wonder if the mechanic serviced the unit on his bench and over filled it
So I put it all back to gather and went through the process of filling the oil and bleeding.
And early days yet and I may be kidding myself but no leaks
So I wonder if being over filled it was presurizing it's self and the oil was forcing it past the seal
How does that sound. Reasonable???
