Re: 1999 Johnson 90 Lower Unit Oil?
If you're asking what type of lube - buy any marine grade lower unit gear oil, generally labeled 80W90 or similar. It's available in any boat shop or any place lube or boating supplies are sold, including a lot of gas stations, auto parts, hardware, and big box (Wal Mart, Target, Fred Meyer, etc) stores. Put the same thought/money into the purchase as you would the lube in your car. In other words, it's no more technical than any other lube decision - if you're a name brand or synthetic kind of guy, do that. If you're happy with generics, do that. I tend to buy Valvoline because an auto parts store near to where I live sells it. I've used el-cheapo generics many times without problems. If I happen to be in the boat shop (rarely - it's waaay across town), I go ahead and buy the OEM brand. it is a little more expensive, but not a significant factor (say $7-8 for the job rather than $5-6).

If you're asking how much - buy a quart bottle or at least two squeeze tubes. Whatever you don't use, you'll use next time. You'll change it again, at a minimum, before putting it up for winter storage. Since it's a new-to-you engine, you'll probably want to check the lube after a couple times running it just to see it's condition. Look for an attachment (for either the quart bottle or squeeze tube) which will make the job easier.
