1999 Johnson Fast Strike Ficht 115hp: HELP

I just purchased a 1999 Johnson Fast Strike 115hp. Ran fine for a day. Now when I start the motor, it goes through it's warning light check. The "No Oil" light stays lit with an annoying alarm. The motor idles fine. If I increase the RPMs to 2500 the motor bogs down. Can these motors turn themselves into a "limited" operating mode? The oil reservoir is full and primed. Any ideas?

SLOW mode limits rpm to around 2500, have you checked the oil level sensor?

The oil level sensor seems fine. The boat has not been winterized for over two years. Any other ideas?

Sensor is fine, oil pump is fine. How can I test the ECU?

The oil pressure switch is not sensing any oil pressure. This turns on the light and activates SLOW, which limits your rpm. It sounds like the motor has sat for a while, maybe the pump has lost its prime. You might try squeezing the oil primer bulb while running at an idle. It may reprime. If not, its time to bring it into a shop for computer diagnostics.

My 115 Johnson fast strike fitch motor will at times jump to the water temp light which will go on and the boat slows down. I put the motor into idle and about 20 seconds later the light goes out. There is smoke coming from the motor. I am scared to drive it at high speeds and usually limp back to dock. Any ideas what the problem could be? Help.

Hi Jim -

I don't understand your reply. I am having trouble with the water temp light going on and the boat stalling. I just asked if anyone has an answer as what might cause it thats all. The other fellow has trouble with his oil light mines the water temp light.
