1999 Johnson lower unit removal

Hi guys,

Just working my new old 35 hp Johnson. Want to replace the impeller but cant get the lower unit to drop. yes I have removed all 5 bolts and broken one

Where do I disconnect the shift linkage?

Remove the water intake screen.-----Scrape paint off the upper shift rod.--------Then loosen the coupling nuts.---Caution do not turn the upper shift rod.------Slide the fitting up the upper shift rod.-----Remove the black plastic keeper.

wanted to post pics of wgere I am now but cant do it.

thought that it was much easier to replace the impeller on the 35 Hp

It was easy!

the impeller was wared so good thing I took it apart.

Unfortunately the woodrof key was missing so I cant come any further untill I get a new key.

It is not a woodruff key.--------The key is typically found under the water pump plate when it goes " missing "

Check around. It can't just disappear..........
