Hello all,
Got an interesting one here... Maybe someone has a bright idea and i won't have to spend many hours tracking down electrical problems. Have 1999 3 Cyl 90 Hp outboard on a pontoon. It will run fine for about the 1st 10 minutes of operation in the morning only. After that it loses power and really bogs down. If you take it out of full throtle it will die. It will not resume normal operation until the next day. Even letting it sit for 3-4 hours during the day will not help.
Did a compression test and got:
115
112
115
Replaced spark plugs and ran for about 4 hours.
Looking at the spark plugs from the top down.
1. normal, still shiney and insulator is still white
2. 1/2 of plug is black, rest is getting that way
3. Fully black and insulator looks to be completely fouled
I am thinking that the coils migh be shorting out after heating up. (had that problem on my 225 Johnson).
Carbs were cleaned out at beginning of this season.
any ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Victor
