Considering buying a new (new to me) boat this weekend. The boat is a 1980 but has a 1999 Mercury 135L installed. Any common problems with this motor I should look for?

The dealership said the compression was excellent and the lower unit has been pressure checked for leaks. Everything checked out ok.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Snagnever,

Probably one of the most bullet-proof engines on the market. Just make sure during the annual service that the fuel pump diaphrams are replaced. Most dealers ignore it, but the Merc service literature calls for them to be done every year. The kit's only about $10 and takes about 20 minutes to do. Very cheap insurance really.

Chris.............
