Motor running good then generator belt broke right at dock, replaced belt and now seem to be getting no power to the starter. Turn key and nothing. Has to be related to the belt breaking, but don't know how. Any suggestions what to check?

Start at the bottom and work up. Does the battery have 12.6 volts or more? Use a test light or volt meter and see that there is 12 volts at the large wire going to the starter solenoid and also at the small wire at the solenoid (not the ground wire) with the key in the start position.

have not had the time, really not a lot knowledge either, but going to try to test the electrical connections today. I figure this has to be a problem with power coming to the engine since won't start, and trim/lift won't work, too bad not just a fuse.

I do have what I know is a very dumb question for people that know about engines, but I know little so bear with me.

What is the part where when you take cover off, take this cover off right in the center, right side of motor, directly in the middle where about 6 positive wires come off large positive "bolt", several come off the negative above it, one small positive wire to the right?

starter solenoid... check battery ground to motor first.. check for 12+ volts ta ground at bottom post with key off..

large bottom post is main battery and all "constant" 12+ volts wiring.. top is 12v to starter when key goes to "start" position.. you should have 12v + on bottom at all times if battery is hooked up.... tha small yellow/red should "come hot" (12+ v) when start is engaged...
