1999 MotorGuide trolling motor

Hello<br /><br />I'm new to boating and have purchased my first boat. I also purchased a 1999 MotorGide Magnum 752V electric trolling motor, with the foot control device, My question is the motor is rated for 12 Volts and the foot controller is rated for 24 Volts. Can I just run 12 Volts to both the controller and the motor, or should i be running 24 V to them and if so will that not burn out the 12 v rated motor?<br /><br />Any information is appreciated <br /><br />Thanks <br /><br />Whiteram

You should be fine with the 12 volt, 1 battery set up. But I would recommend to set it up like a 24 volt system, it will still only draw 12 volts, but you will virtually never have to worry about batteries running out of juice, it takes a little from each saving you from switching batteries or ending your fishing day early. Its an easy thing to do, just connec the 2 batteries by using a cable from the + of one to the - of the other, then plug your trolling motor wires into the corrosponding remaining studs and whalla, no more worrying or switching batteries! You can just spend your time fishing! Which is the idea in the first place.

Wait a minute.<br /><br />Do not connect the + of 1 to the - of another and connect the remaining two wires to the 12 volt trolling motor. That will create a 24 volt sytem which will mean you will soon be in the market for a 2002 trolling motor.<br /><br />If you have a need to have more reserve than 1 battery can provide, get a second battery (and it needs to be similar in size and condition to the first one) and connect the +'s and -'s to each other, then connect to the trolling motor. Do that and you still have 12 volt system, which is the kind of trolling motor you have.<br /><br />I do not know about a 24 volt foot controller, I use hand control myself, but I would question how that controller got with that motor, if the controller really needs 24 volts.

I aggree with Jack, DO NOT hook that up in a 24 volt pattern to the engine. I have the 24 volt model with an inboard charger. I need new batteries, but it still works great with only partial charge. I am wondering if I am doing damage to the motor by running it on lower power, or if they are made for that.

Whoa!<br />Jacks right, I twisted it around, sorry!<br /><br />the 24 volt rating for the pedal only means the pedal itself, not the motor, can be used with a 24 volt or 12 volt motor. But you only need 12 volts to run that motor, even with the pedal.<br /><br />Again sorry for the mix up!<br /><br />ccbangler
