issue with this motor since i bought it a year ago
passed ddt test.ok with leakdown test.check all plug wires with spark testers ok.pulled out 4 plugs out of six, alot of carbon on them.carbon in the prop.swaped out computer from other engine, no change ,motor is doggy and runs at 5200 wot ,other engine is at 5800.not sure if guages were hook uped when water pumps were put in as this issue was supposed to be corrected, yea right 1100 dollars later for a pump ,thermostats updates, mechanic stated tests did not coincide manual an that the other motor that ran fine did not coincide either, don't mind paying but like to have it run right . being a mechanic i can read a ohms meter and i believe my air condtioner manifolds may hook up to the air and fuel rails
pt & tilt pins and caps, thanks

Re: 1999 optimax

What motor is this? What do the other two plugs look like? I'm not sure what a ddt test is. If you can give a little more information about what is going on, we may have a better idea of where to steer you. What is exactly the issue you are having?

From what I gather, you have two V-6s on your boat, do they both have identical props?

Have you done a decarb on the engine?

the motors are twin 200 optimaxes, the counter rotater has the issues,I did not take the other two plugs out as i had to go to work and they are a b--- to put back the ddt is a computer to test these engines, the issues are ,lower rmps than the starboard motor ,carbon deposits on the plugs and prop, very doggy taking off compared to the starboard engine

THEY ARE OPTIMAXES. PREPARE YOURSELF TO SPEND THOUNSAND OF DOLLARES MORE. I ALSO HAVE TWIN OPTIMAXS AND THEY'VE BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST YRS.
I'VE REBUILT BOTH OF THEM LAST YR.
LAST WEEK THE PORT ENGINE BLEW UP AGAIN.
SAVE YOURSELF $ AND TIME AND SELL THEM ASAP.

Re: 1999 optimax

The optimax is a great motor. I hate that Dolce has had such problems with his, but if properly maintained, they are a steed!

As to the carbon fouling on the plugs, sounds definitely like a mixture or timing problem. Check the manual to verify pressure settings on the fuel rails, and maybe run a decarb on the motor. Pull the plugs and spray liberally with Deep Creep, turn it over a few times then let it sit overnight. Take it out and blow it out the next day.
