Hi All, Have been reading the posts in this forum for a week now and do believe you to be the experts. I about to purchase a 1999 Proline with a 150 Merc O/B. Just wondering if anyone knew of any problems with that year that I should look out for? Thanks....

hello
not any that most other outboards suffer from
the electrical system on a merc is kinda flaky. you need to replace the water pump,t-stst and pressure control valve diaphram and rebuild the fuel pump at least every third season. if your going to allow it to sit more than 30 days or so fog the engine. the biggest cause of oil pump drive gear failures is due to rust on the shiny part of the oil pump driven gear. also check the clear vynil oil line for getting hard. if they are not flexible replace them as a maint action. its not rocket science put they to require proactive maint as opposed to reactive maint.

Is that 150 carbed, EFI (maybe labeled XRI), or OptiMax?

If it's an optimax-aviod it like the plague. Worst year for the a horrible outboard.
