Re: 1999 sea doo gtx limited
- Routine maintenance is important. These things can be expensive to repair.
- Learn how to run the engine on land without blowing it up or injesting water (yes there's a specific method).
- Use the proper oil- which is NOT outboard motor oil.
- Don't tow it (in the water) over 10 MPH unless you clamp off the intake hose.
Any warning signs that I should have them look out for?
The way I'm reading that, you're implying that they'll be operating the GTX. Am I correct?
How old are we talkin'?
We have a '97 GTI. It was a gift to my kid when she turned 16.
Biggest concern (other than the basic safety stuff) is how PWC's react in an emergency. To avoid a collision you can't just turn the bars because it WON'T turn without applying power.
My kid's been around boats her entire life and used to pilot our 23' cuddy (with me directing her of course).
Before she was allowed to take the controls of the PWC she had to complete the safe boater class, and that first year I would only let her run it if a responsible adult was with her. I was so concerned about emergency control that I affixed a big label to the dashboard that read
"GAS TO TURN!". She understood, and that label was her constant reminder of what to do if confronted with a situation.
By time she was 17 (and legal to go solo) I felt comfortable enough to let her go. She enjoyed the freedom but knew the risks and how to avoid them.
She'll be turning 23 this year and still likes blastin' around with it. Almost as much as I do!
