i have a 1999 sx cobra out drive attached to a 5.7GS Volvo , what do i have to do to get to the end of the water intake hose located in the outdrive above the pick up holes in lower casing, when i turn the out drive to the right all the way i can see the water pickup hose and even touch it !!! do i have to drop outdrive to fix this? and if so it's a lame design. or is it not as hard as i'm thinking it is?

i'm sure its sucking air on plane . i did the duct tape over the lower outdrive holes garden hose at low pressure from the water pump to the pick up holes test, and sure enough water coming out where its not supposed to. i'm sure it's a bad connection or crack in hose .
i'm a pretty handy type and refuse to pay $$$ for something i can do myself ,just don't want open up a can of worms . is there a guide to getting to this somewhere online or has someone else done this(and posted pics) without to much trouble or do i need to take it in to a mechanic (none have good reps around here)? i searched and searched and came up empty.

things i've done ....replaced thermostat, impeller, pressure tested every part of cooling system ,checked manifolds for corrosion , looked for any blockage of water flow, everything is good until high speed plane.

anyones input would be great!

Thank you in advance

you will need to pull the drive and pivot housing off to access the hose. hose at pivot housing is attached to a plastic nipple which are known to fracture. the hose clamp at plastic nipple nearly impossible to get at without pulling off drive and pivot housing .there is a large plastic nut that you will see when you pull the drive off that secures the plastic nipple.
