Recently bought a 1999 Chris Craft 200 bowrider with a throttle bodied 5.0 volvo engine. This boat has never been owned or titled & only has 2.5 hours on the engine. It has been sitting at a dealer for about 2 years untouched & unused accept for the sun's damaging rays and a demo or two. I took it out memorial day weekend for the first time since having it. Before I did though, I did have the oil, filter, & lower unit fluid replaced. The engine ran smooth & idled well, but had no power off the line or top end. Took a good 12 seconds or so just to begin planing out & never could get faster than 36 mph. I realize the engine is new & requires a "break in" period, but something is not right. The local Volvo dealer says that their computer diagnostic says nothing is wrong. My previous boat that had a 4.3 volvo carberated engine would "jump" out of the water and top out at 54mph. What could this be? Would love to hear your ideas. thank you.

Rick,

What is your max (loaded) rpm. Will the engine exceed the loaded rpm in an unloaded state-read nuetral?

The injectors gum up just like the carb engines. I would change fuel filter, freah fuel, Sea foam,or what Volvo recommended for injector cleaner, and check fuel pressure. What about warranty?

Unsure of the rpm under load...guess I should check that out. Other suggestion of carb/injector cleaner probably a good idea, although the dealer working on the engine said they appear to be working fine. Yes, the engine is still under warranty & will be for another 22 months, but I nor the dealer that is doing the service is sure if this type of problem is covered...especially since the problem may have more to do with the fact that it has been sitting for so long.
