1or 2 batteries?

Hello all, I am buying a Key largo 190 with a mercury 150 on it, the boat is gonna be used in a variety of ways from inland lakes and rivers to going offshore. The boat comes equiped with one battery, should I consider mounting a second with a battery selector switch? Thanks for all your imput, Mike.

Yes you should run 2 batterys, One for starting and one for EVERYTHING else. As for the selector switch that is up to you. Far less likley you will get caught with a low battery with the possability of being to remidie the situation if you do.

I would also carry one of those portable jump start things with you. I wouldn't even think of going in the ocean with my boat, but I still carry one of those with me. Usually can be found on sale for $25, and they work GREAT!

I'll tell you what, having a second battery saved my butt this last weekend. I have a starting battery and a deep cycle for trolling. They are completely seperate, I have no switch. I went to start my motor in 32 degree weather, and it wound the starting battery down pretty quick. I carry shortened jumper cables, and I hooked up the jumpers from the deep cycle to the starting battery, and the motor was running quickly. Two is definately better than one.
