I decided to take the boat out early yesterday to do some fishing. Got to the launch at 6:30 am-- no problem fighting the crowds at that hour, like in my other "Boat launch full AGAIN" thread! I was the second one there-- one other bass boat was just launching as I pulled up.
It was a COLD morning for August, temps on the lake must have been in the upper 40s-low 50s. Felt like late October. There was a lot of mist on the much warmer lake that looked really cool in the dawn sunlight.
This is a very popular lake, always seen it very crowded, and it was EMPTY (except for that bass boat, which was nowhere to be seen by now). Strange sight. The water wasn't glass, but it was as calm as I'd ever seen it, with no wake chop and no wind to stir the water up. Don't know if the lake has any no-wake speed or noise before a certain time restrictions, but I couldn't resist opening 'er up a little in those conditions. What a ride! I'm used to bouncing over chop at WOT, which is fun in itself, but my old boat was gliding on the water! Felt like driving a hydroplane.
So taking the boat out early was a great experience. I really liked having the lake to myself. Of course the weather probably had a lot to do with it too. Taking the boat out in the fall after the jet skis & boards are put away will be nice too (not that I have anything against them, just sayin').
Oh yeah, the fishing? Zilch. Next time I go out at the crack 'o dawn I might just leave my fishing gear at home.
