.1st time with an outboard and a question/problem

I have a zodiac 340 cadet with a 15 hp evinrude (4 stroke). I took the kids and wife out and about and ran into something I can't figure out. Please note, this is my 1st boat and outboard!

When I would take off the boat would not plane...it would come close but the engine, while revving normally, sounded as if the prop was "out of the water" and the pee stream would go to a trickle. If I just cruised along slowly, the pee stream was "robust" and the engine sounded normal. I adjusted the trim, to no avail. Could it be the wrong prop? Also, how should the shaft of the engine line up with the transom?

Thanks everyone..

To begin with, you need to have that sib well inflated to it's factory recommended working pressure 3.0/3.5 PSI once on water, buy yourself a Zodiac gauge, one issue is boating solo, other with family when sib needs more tube/keel rigidity to work best while carrying more weight.

Are you saying sib won't plane out because hitting something on previous outing ? Can you see any harm on lower leg ? If hitting a hard object at speed could have gear issues, bent shaft or prop blades or even a spun hub ?

If your transom is 15" height will need to raise it to 15.5" if already there, shouldn't have any issues at all. Anyway distribute passengers evenly bow to transom, place trim angle to have a perpendicular engine, fully throttle, once at full plane should have AC plate parallel to water flow. If engine is new and with tech issues, take to dealer, that's what warranty is for. Props are medium pitched standard factory delivered and should work properly.

Check this nice video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBeZjaA76VM&feature=youtu.be If water flow is passing as in the example don't shim to rise transom any more. Had a Zodiac at our shop for transom repairs and when height was measured strangely had 15", was raised to 15.5" for top performance.
