2 150 Johnsons or a 225 merc

I have a 95 225 mer on a stratos 22.5 cc and have opportunity to buy 2 oceanrunners that previous owner upgraded to 4 stokes. most of my run time is off shore at 15-30 mph. How much more gas will the 150's burn. I get 2 mpg est with the 225.<br />thanks<br />rick

You'll use less throttle with the 150's. Most twin setups still get around 2+ MPG. Plus you have the ability to limp home (with a prop change) on a single 150. If I could do it I would. Plus you'll have the benefit of the counter rotation for docking and general drivability. <br /><br />Good luck.

If used off shore i would go with the twin's <br /><br />always nice to have that second one to limp home on if you have any trouble and my buddy has a setup close to what your running and see 2 to 3 mpg he traded to twins after his single left him stranded with a storm moving in

my electric assist fuel pump went out and i idled about 20 miles in yesterday..Thanks

Ouch i bet that was not fun, sorry to hear about your luck. <br /><br />He could not get his restarted and ended up having the coast guard coming out to help him as he had several people on that boat the where first timers and where freaking out. <br /><br />He had repowered by the next weekend

I have twin OMC SeaDrives that came with electric primers. After one quit I went to the old fashoned squeeze bulbs. Works just fine.
