Gregs,

I have numbers on my temp gauge. I'm taking it out tomorrow and will be able to tell you exactly what the temp reads. I know it is not running hot and it consistently runs at the same level but don't remember the gauge scale. I ordered an OMC parts catalogue and a seloc engine manual - must haves for learning to care for the boat (this forum is great - I've been reading and learning a lot here). The thermostat housing is on the front of the engine, starboard side, bolted on the exhaust manifold. I've never replaced it but it appears you remove the hose clamps and hoses, unbolt the housing and pull out the thermostat and replace. From this forum, I understand that an automotive thermo will not be appropriate. One of our forum experts can help you much better...I'm a newbie. The OMC part number for the thermostat is: 0982554 What kind of outdrive do you have? I have a cobra.

Boatin Bob, Once again, thanks for the reply. Slits on the bottom of the exhaust bellows? I'll bet that's what I have because the bellows look like they're in good shape. I'm taking the boat out tomorrow and I'll check the idle in gear. I understand there is an idle screw(s) which I assume is on located on or around the carb. What is the idle adjustment procedure? Thanks for the education!

jcoelho....you should be able to just back out the idle screw enough to lower your RPM's by watching the tach.

Try this site, it has online parts catalogs, just pick the year, the engine size and then the area you want to see exploded OMC Parts Diagrams
