2.3L OMC Cobra- 1990 four winns

I have posted on here a few questions and I believe that my previous problems were solved, hopefully! I had a problem were my boat was chugging in idle postion and also a battery problem, where my pos terminal melted while being jumped. I bought a new battery, cleaned every single wire from corrosion and also replaced a cracked solenoid.

I then had the boat out for about an hour and I shut it off. When i went to start it back up, the engine kept turning over even after i pulled the key out. So i put the key back in and turned it a few times and finally it stopped turning over. I drove it back to the dock and tried it again, same thing happened but this time i couldn't get it to stop turning over. I had to disconnect the battery and starter to get it to stop. So i pulled the starter and alternator, just in case, to have them tested. I have not tested them yet put this is where I stand. I have been told that the key switch could be broke?

any ideas. your reponses are highly appreciated.

Could be the ignition switch but I would also be suspicious of that solenoid you changed, was it right on the starter or was it the standalone assist solenoid? Either one could cause your symptoms.

I bought a brand new marine solenoid but do you think it could still be causing problems?

have you tried a continuity test across the solenoid contacts to see if it opens after key switch is returned to run position. sometimes a relay will stick and cause the starter to keep turning the motor over . I hope this is not the case cause that would mean the starter was engaged while the motor was running which will severly shorten the life of the starter .. I had it happen on a polaris 4 wheeler once what a disapointment that was..
