2.4L with no fuel quick disconnect!?

Hi everyone,
My newly aquired 2.4 (1989) has the fuel line straight from the fuel tank to the engine. I always thought there was a side disconnect like all the other outboards I've seen. What parts do I need to convert it back because I really prefer the disconnect option to run the fuel out of the carbs.

That's how mine is set up. When I got it it had plastic aftermarket fuel bayonet fittings on it, and it could not get enough fuel. I prefer it that way anyway.

If you install the bayonet fittings, be sure to use genuine Mercury metal fittings. Do not use any aftermarket plastic fittings.

On the engine you need:
one 22-816856Q3 FUEL CONNECTOR 22-15781A1
one 1/4-2- x 1 3/8 in. bolt
one 812782 SEAL No longer made, limited quantity. It's the rubber part around the bayonet and is just a dust shield, not needed.

Hope it helps
John

Thanks John....I wonder if maybe this engine pulls more fuel than a stock engine and the fuel disconnect was deleted. I guess I just need to find the rigth size nipple for the fuel pump. The fuel line ID is much bigger than the fitting and I have to clamp the crap out of it to seal it.

Is the oil injection removed from that engine? When I ran my primer bulb line directly into the engine, it fit the oil T pretty good. I replaced all the internal lines with tygon, except the pulse line to the fuel pump. That one has to be pretty stiff fuel line, or it won't work.

I wuz dealing with scrap rubber plugging things up.

I agree with j-martin. Dont worry about the quick connect, most boat mechanics recommend getting rid of that junk anyways. Connecting straight from the fuel tank to the engine is fine.

You could throw in a shut off valve. Just be sure it's a full flow ball valve or gate valve. (See through full diameter.)
