2.5/3.0 Mercruiser - bolting old style riser onto new style manifold

Does anyone know if there's an adapter out there that would let me mount the old-style 2.5/3.0 riser on a new style 2.5/3.0 manifold? Water channels and mounting holes are different, but due to my pre-alpha transom assembly I need to use the original style exhaust. Just hoping someone makes an adapter plate so I don't have to swap the entire intake/exhaust manifold to make it work.

Nope,..... Either swap the manifold, or swap the down-pipe,.....

New style down pipe 'should' bolt straight onto the old style transom housing.... But, you'll need to pull the engine to do it.

That's what I thought too - but the pre-alpha transom plate blocks the down pipe from fitting. The pre-alpha has the engine mount holes further apart than the later Alpha 1 style, so the support gussets on the transom plate itself are in a different spot - the down pipe hits the transom plate and won't sit flush against the transom housing :(

So, I either need to cut the transom plate (not happening), or use the pre-alpha downpipe. But that downpipe doesn't line up with the new-style riser on the motor. Which means I guess I need to use the pre-alpha style riser as well. But THAT doesn't bolt onto the new style exhaust manifold...so I suppose that's being swapped out too.

I considered buying an alpha-1 transom plate instead, to replace my pre-alpha. That would make it so much easier - exhaust would bolt on, and I wouldn't have to swap out for a smaller flywheel on my new motor either. But I don't know if my existing cable steering would bolt onto the Alpha 1 transom plate? Looks like it mounts differently than mine.

The post 1983 inner transom plate (narrow engine mounts) will bolt up to a later MC1 gimbal housing (with the round trim senders)... but you would have to change the flywheel housing for the engine to mount. A whole new can of worms. This is why people are so reluctant to work on 'frankenmotors'.
