It's strange.only reason I see that they did it is because block cracked and didn't want water pumping, and even stranger they run a belt from water pump to alternator like that's way suppose to be.there some seeks out there.i still want to fire it up and see, never know.

I think I just realized something.are both these motors I got the same? I read the mercruiser have stronger crank.so are both these motors iron dukes?

Neither are "Iron Duke"s,... which is a 151cid Pontiac motor,...

I believe that motor only came in a very early Chevy Nova. Back then, like early 60's they were called Chevy 2's. Very hard to find. It was also used in many brands of fork lifts.

Ok well maybe I'll look for the 4.3 and a matching outdrive.

I like the caravelle.and want to get it on the water.but almost positive block cracked in it too.i see alot 4.3 boats with bad floors.might run across one and switch everything, but now realized mounts probly won't match up.unless I can find good core block 2.5.

Bondo has the best idea. Try to find a 3.0l. You can just bolt up the stuff you have to one. The power will be better also. At some point Mercruiser stopped doing 2.5l engine and am pretty sure there are a lot more 3.0l engines out there.

The 3.0l is a 140hp. The 2.5l is the 120hp.

that's what I meant to write 140 sorry. So if I do find 3.0 will drive gears make any difference? Can I get different prop to even it out? Are the 3.0 and 2.5 same block just different heads had to ask that?

No they are not the same block but all the accessories bolt right up. The 3.0l has room in the cylinder metal to have a bigger bore. They both used the same drive ratio so you might have to go up in pitch but you won't know until you try it.

Ok that's what I wanted to know.i may have found me one.in a 86 model.outdrive bad.i have one more question.will any car motor bolt up to drive, and use same components like heads risers.do they have 3.0 gm? I know they say the motors are not built for marine, and won't last long.but I got to know.
