I have a motor that I'm not quite sure if it's a 2.5L or not.

On the side of the block it has GM stamped.

There's a few sets of numbers but I can't get any info when I do a search on them. I'm hoping that someone can help me determine what engine I have.

277087

M02247RB

RB - 6-27-00

Obove is all I can find on the block. Can anyone figure out which motor I have with that info?

Thanks

Re: 2.5L ?

Nope.....
Where did you Find the Motor ????
In a Boat ???
Which 1 ???
What Color is it(the Motor, Not the Boat) ????
What Year is on the Registraion ????
If it's a GM 4cyl. inline... It's Either a 2.5l 153cid 120hp.. or a 3.0l 181cid 140hp.....
They're both Somewhat Interchangable.....

Re: 2.5L ?

It's in a 1987 19' Bayliner that I just bought. The guy I bought it from said the owner before him had put a remanufactured 2.3L in it. From what I've been told the 2.3L is a ford engine and this has GM stamped on the block.

The boat was originally supposed to come with a 3.0L according to the emblems on teh side.

How do I distinguish between a 3.0L and a 2.5L?

Also the guy that I just bought it from had it serviced and the marina told him that it had points in it that were totally wrong for that motor. Makes me wonder if the guy who installed the motor was thinking he was installing a 2.3L and has a few parts on this motor that were actually meant for a 2.3L.

I have been timing it to the 2.3L specs and I even bought new plugs and installed for a 2.3L. The plugs I took out were the same thing but according to the book I have it states that a 2.3 and a 2.5 use different plugs. Which leads me to another question I have... If the motor is a 2.5L and was rebuilt in 2000 what year would I use for a reference when getting the required timing settings and such?

I hope you can make sense out of that.

Thanks

" If the motor is a 2.5L and was rebuilt in 2000 what year would I use for a reference when getting the required timing settings and such? "
1987.........

I Don't Do OMCs......
And I Don't Do Bilgeliners.....
I've Never even Seen a 2.3l Ford.....
So, I really can't help much....
IF it's a GM... There's 28cid.s,+ 20hp Difference between the 2....
And not much else....
