I have a 2 bank on board charger and went to go fishing and the starting battery was dead. I started the boat the day before the trip and all was good until we got to the water. My question is , how can I tell if this on board charger is working? BTW the trolling battery seemed to work find but we did not test it in the water. The charging light on the 2 bank said charged.

Could easily just be the battery. It could read charged and have no capacity left. Connect it to a known good battery and read the voltage while it's charging. Should be 13-14V

Will do that. I changed batteries for fishing and left that battery in and when I plugged the on board charger in it said charging not charged this time. The dead battery is on charge, I will check it again when it gets fully charged. Thanks

Is there a chance that when you tested the boat the day before, that something was left turned on that could have drained the battery? Running lights ,bilge pump, are just a few items that may not be powered thru the ing. switch. After it happened to me the second time, I found that the auto bilge switch was sticking on my boat at times. Did not take me long to repair the problem, and the junk man got a real deal on the old one.

I will go and measure the voltage and see what it reads. I think the battery was low because I only put it on the big charger for a hard charge then charged it regular for an hour. The only thing that could of been left on was the auto bilge but I don't hear it run. Thanks for all the responses.
