So knock on wood, my 470 is running perfect. But we all know this motor idles for crap. The merc manual says the idle in gear is supposed to be 550 to 600. Yea ok she loads up and stalls. So now I decided to rebuild the carb. I know this carb pretty well but the last 2 times I had it done by a carb guy. Well last night I took it apart.
I think I found out why I' m loading up on an idle. There is a check ball that is supposed to be underneathe the pump assembly. Its not there, so in the new kit i put the ball were it belongs. I also noticed my idle mixture screws have a little tiny groove on them. tonight I will see how my rebuild went after testing it on the water
