i recently had my jonny 9.5 out on the lake and had problems with the engine runnig up in rpms and me slowing down , i took the prop off and discovered that the hub was turning but not the prop, so i put on a old 2 blade prop i had lying around and when i took it out on the lake today the engine seemed to go a **** of a lot faster than normal , the only niggle beeing the engine was revving up a lot higher than normal..

i know the 2 blades are weedless props and thats there purpose
i just want to know will i do any engine damage riunning at higher rpms than normal , it was great going cos i got to my fishin hole in under 10 mins which used to take 15 or 20

anyway thanks for any help

Re: 2 blades vs 3 blades

Now don't get impatient, Digimortal. It was little over half an hour before you bumped. You ought to wait several hours to a day for someone to come along who has a good answer for you.

The key to your question is how many rpm? If your engine is now turning over 5500-6000rpm it is probably turning too fast and shortening its life.

Most manufacturers recommend cruising at about 3/4 throttle which should be safe.

What boat do you have it on? It might be that your boat is heavier than the three blade prop is ideal for, and going to the two blade improved its match to your boat. It might also be that you are over-revving the engine on a light boat.

Let us know about the boat, and try to get a rpm measurement.

Good luck :)

DM777,If your not worried about losing your motor go to it.
Dont be confused your motor is not running faster just because it is a 2 blade.Your prop has less pitch(kind of like 2nd gear instead of high.
Makes it easier for your motor to push your
boat.

I read somewhere that one blade props are the most fuel efficient but they vibrate the most.
The more blades the less vibration and less fuel efficient. ;)

Thats effiecency(I think?)Sloop :D
Sloopy is right.2 blades are better than 3 because they get a cleaner bite in the water(less turbulance)
