I have a 1985 70 evinrude that just scored a cylinder and has play in the piston travel so I think it spun a bearing. I looked in the bore with the plug removed and there is scoring. What did I do wrong, had carbs cleaned, what could cause this?

Re: #2 cylinder scoring

Engine has roller bearings on crank and wrist pin and it is possible for one to fail. Usually when a bearing fails the piston dome will have dents/dings impressed into it the size of the bearing and sometimes a bearing itself. If it is just scuffed look for lean carb, water intrusion or ignition problem(pack double firing or cylinder timing off).
