just got a 1978 2hp Evinrude, in almost showroom condition for only $100, looks, starts and runs like new, but when I touch the head area around the spark plug its pretty hot. But don't how if its too hot or normal. The impellor seems to be working fine, with a good mist coming out of the 4 little holes at low throttle, and at full throttle, a good, almost stream like flow that sprays at least 3-4. Am I worried about nothing?

the head area near the spark plug will get quite hot, but if you spritz some water on it , it shouldnt sizzle. you should be able to touch the cylinder for a few seconds before it become uncomfortable. i would personally recommend replacing the impeller tho.....its an easy job and cheap insurance. jmo

yep....unless of course you can confirm the last time....if ever...that its been changed. its no fun trying to fish pieces of an impeller that self destructed out of the cooling passages.
